The Name behind The Collins Club
David Collins was born in 1955 in Dublin and studied at the Bolton School of Architecture. He received his first major design commission by chance. After completing a private residential project for a friend of Pierre Koffmann, he was invited to refurbish the chef’s restaurant in Chelsea. Shortly afterwards, in 1988, he was invited to re-design Harvey’s by Michellin-starred chef Marco Pierre White. It went on to be named ‘Restaurant of the Year’ by The Times that year.
In 1985, he founded David Collins Studio, alongside Iain Watson. Collins was as stylish as the interiors he created. He understood luxury beyond brand names, creating interiors which looked as if they had always existed. ‘London’s Great Interior Designer.’ — British Vogue
David passed away in 2013. His spirit lives on through the work of The Studio and we are proud at The Leinster to honour David in the naming of The Collins Bar as a tribute to his work.
